As winter approaches, we like to heat things up here in Jefferson County with our Annual BBQ Festival and Cook-off. Held each year in November, we call on the whole community to pull out their best recipes and show off their cooking talent. There’s a lot more to BBQ than a good sauce; just ask the cooks! Besides the BBQ Contests, we have Pie Baking Contests! Southerners take great pride in their recipes for pumpkin, pecan and fruit pies. Our pound cake is pretty special, too!
BBQ gatherings are a long-time tradition here in the South. Since BBQ meats are cooked slowly – for a long time – folks have a chance to relax and become re-acquainted, to sample all the traditional BBQ fare and have fun! This Festival honors the county’s heritage of cooking, food, beverage and culinary traditions.
Arts and Crafts Vendors are invited, too, as are Food Vendors. Every year brings a new variety of entertainment – like greased pig chases for children, a beer garden with the game on and live music. The Jefferson BBQ Festival takes place in Monticello and is a lively, good time for everyone!
Supported by the Florida BBQ Association, and sponsored by FMB, the Tourist Development Council, Board of County Commissioners and C.W. Roberts Contracting among others, this event aims to bring together hundreds of BBQ fans and people with a passion for cooking.
