About

Known as the Keystone County, Jefferson County offers the key to quality living which is accompanied by a special feeling of well-being.

Our climate allows year-round outdoor activity. Peaceful canoe trails on our unspoiled rivers; hunting for quail, deer, dove and wild turkey, in our fresh piney woods; and fishing and duck hunting on quiet, natural Lake Miccosukee are only the beginning. Tennis enthusiasts may take advantage of the city’s four new courts, and Jefferson Country Club provides two lighted courts, a fine nine-hole golf course and a swimming pool.

Beautiful, old homes and our 1890 Opera House are constant reminders of our heritage. Monticello’s downtown area has been designated a National Historic District, and constant effort is being made to preserve the best of our past. A feeling of belonging comes quickly to newcomers who lose themselves in the desire to preserve the legacy of yesterday while planning wisely for the future. This is the essence of our life here.

Jefferson County provides all services associated with a progressive area while holding out the promise of the peace and pleasure of rural living. The financial opportunities of a vital, growing area lie here amid the beauty and welcome quiet of a lifestyle associated with a more gentle area.

Our changing seasons bring special beauty and provide reason enough for celebration. In spring, when our area resembles a huge garden, we have our Tour of Homes; to celebrate summer’s bounty, we have our annual Watermelon Festival which offers something for everyone and the atmosphere of a family reunion; fall’s changing colors and golden days with cool nights are just right for football games and mullet roasts; while winter, with its clear, sunny skies and brisk weather, makes us want to take advantage of all the opportunities to live the good life – learning, entertaining, sports, to name a few.

Here we have the best of two worlds – the goods, services and advantages of modern city life along with the peace and fulfillment of the country.

Come and see us – you’ll want to stay,
