From the President’s Pen - March 2010
Hello Chamber Members,
Let’s don’t talk among ourselves: When we “get out there”, we find that a majority of the people who work, shop, live and engage in our town affairs share our special feelings about Monticello and want what is best for our town and its future. The Chamber, civic groups, county commission and city Council members are really on the same page. We may be reading at different speeds, but we’re there—join us!
Get involved. Don’t do the same-old, same-old. Be positive. Get out there. Raise concerns, speak up and offer some suggestions. Bring examples from some of your other favorite towns & cities.
Don’t just talk among yourselves. Make the energy productive by working with your Chamber. We all have the best interests of Monticello as the place to be at heart.
Everyone has the same thing to say—we need more shops downtown, or our businesses don’t carry what we need or our businesses charge too much. Small businesses have to charge more because they do not have the resources to carry a large inventory.
Let’s ask ourselves a few questions:
- How do we achieve growth downtown?
- Do you feel we are due for change or are we satisfied with things being done as in the past?
- Do you feel your Chamber should be more visible in the community?
- Do you feel our local leaders are doing their share in helping with the growth of our community?
- Do you feel your Chamber should be open on Saturdays, during special events or during lunch hour?
- Are you happy with the location of your Chamber or do you feel it should be located in a more visible or higher traffic area?
- Do you feel your Chamber should be updated (building, technology, etc.)?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, don’t just talk among yourselves—voice your opinions and concerns. What would you do and how would you accomplish same?
Remember, this is Your Chamber and you have a voice. Please e-mail your suggestions to Sbaugh8307@aol.com.
Thank you for allowing me to serve as your President.
